Matthew Andrews, LCSW, is originally from Tennessee and now calls Wilmington, North Carolina, home, where he can trade the Tennessee scenery for a little coastal living. He works with adults and college students navigating anxiety, depression, and substance use. His style is easygoing and conversational.

Matt believes therapy works best when it builds on each person’s strengths and experiences. He works collaboratively with clients to understand patterns, reduce shame, and develop practical skills that support greater confidence and self understanding. His approach includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing, with care shaped around each client’s needs and goals.

Matt specializes in working with adults with anxiety, including ongoing worry, overthinking, and panic attacks. Anxiety can make it difficult to relax, feel present, or trust your ability to handle everyday challenges. You may find yourself preparing for the worst, feeling on edge, or struggling to quiet your thoughts even when things seem fine on the outside. Matt helps clients explore what may be contributing to their anxiety, recognize how it affects daily life, and build skills for navigating difficult moments at a pace that feels manageable.

He also works with adults experiencing depression. Depression can show up as low energy, loss of motivation, difficulty keeping up with daily responsibilities, or feeling disconnected from yourself and others. Sometimes it is hard to explain what feels wrong, especially when you are used to pushing through on your own. Matt offers a supportive, nonjudgmental space to talk through these experiences, understand emotional patterns, and reconnect with personal strengths while working toward meaningful changes in daily life.

Matt has extensive experience supporting adults with substance use concerns and relapse prevention. Changing your relationship with substances can be complicated, especially when they have become a way to cope with stress, difficult emotions, or experiences that feel hard to face. He helps clients explore these patterns without judgment, identify triggers, and develop coping strategies that fit their lives and goals. Whether someone is considering a change, working to maintain recovery, or trying to understand a setback, therapy can provide space to build self trust, recognize personal needs, and make choices that feel more aligned with the life they want.
