Why Adult Therapy?
At Clarity Counseling Center in Wilmington, we say that no one does this life alone. We feel that everyone could use a hand at some point throughout their lives. But help and support aren’t always available. Or if it is, it’s not enough.
Sometimes our friends and family become “maxed out” when the problem seems too big, too confusing, or when they’ve heard us talk about it for the hundredth time. This is where counseling services and therapy are a natural choice. Our therapists and counselors are ready and able to support and guide you through making changes or to help you figure out how to take that first step. Contact us today to get started.
What Will Therapy Be Like?
Entering therapy for the first time can be nerve-wracking and “weird.” We get that. At Clarity Counseling Center, we pride ourselves on being professional, yet down to earth, and as transparent as possible. We strive to serve our clients with superior care. We believe that starts with connecting with the right therapist! Give our office staff an email or call today. They’re experts at therapy ‘match-making’!
The next step to superior care is a sound treatment approach. All of our therapists and counselors are trained and specialize in a variety of therapeutic techniques, but we primarily utilize an approach to treatment called cognitive-behavioral therapy or (CBT). It’s a sound and reliable method which means it has been proven to work! We believe an approach that’s been proven to work is always a good starting place.
Signs It May Be Time To See A Therapist
Feeling Overwhelmed
If you feel like you have so much on your plate that you can’t rest or cope with them, you may want to see a therapist. Stress and anxiety not only make it hard to live a full and healthy life, but they can lead to physical health concerns.
Disproportionate Anger or Resentment
Everyone feels angry sometimes, but if you have persistent anger or resentment that’s getting in the way of living your daily life, are extreme in comparison to the situation, or if they lead you to potentially harmful actions, it may be time to see a therapist.
Hopelessness
If you’re feeling lost, hopeless, or like you have no future, you may be suffering from depression or another mental health concern. Feeling hopeless from time to time isn’t uncommon, especially after a loss or during a period of difficulty, but if it’s persistent, a therapist can help.
Anxious or Intrusive Thoughts
If worrying is taking up a serious amount of your day, making it hard to sleep, or causing panic attacks, therapy can help you deal with it and teach you coping methods.
You Just Need Help!
Every single client who comes to our counseling center comes with their own unique story and unique needs. You don’t have to have a mental illness diagnosis to benefit from therapy. Therapy is a safe, judgment-free space where you can work with a trained professional whose job is to help you.

The Importance of a Good Match
Here at Clarity Counseling Center, we have a wide range of therapists who specialize in different therapeutic approaches. If you’d like to browse their profiles, visit our Meet Our Therapists page. It’s important to make a good match, and the therapist who works for one person may not work for another. While all of our therapists are highly skilled, their work with you will only be effective if you’re a good match and feel connected with them!
If you don’t like your therapist, you may be concerned that they’ll judge you, and won’t feel safe sharing your innermost thoughts. In order to get to the heart of what’s bothering you, you have to have a bond with your therapist. So, how do you actually choose a therapist? Our team is here to help! We specialize in ‘therapist matchmaking’ and are more than happy to work with you to ensure a good fit.
Factors To Consider When Choosing A Therapist
As you start browsing for a therapist, think about what factors are important to you. You may want to consider:
- Gender - would you feel more comfortable with a male or female therapist?
- Age - do you want to work with someone older, younger, or around your own age?
- Religion - is the religious affiliation of your therapist important to you? Are religion and spirituality something you want to discuss?
- Specialty area - are you looking for a grief therapist? Help with anxiety? Someone who specializes in issues faced by millennials? An LGBTQ+ friendly therapist?
Hopefully, this list gives you a good starting point as to what you should consider when choosing a therapist, but know that if it isn’t a good match, you can always switch to someone else! Sometimes it takes time to find the perfect match, but once you do, you’ll find that therapy can be incredibly helpful in overcoming your challenges.
