Tyler Alexander, LCSWA

Tyler grew up in Raleigh, NC and loves the laid-back, coastal living that Wilmington has to offer. He specializes in working with adults experiencing anxiety, including those curious about the connection between stress and alcohol use, adult men navigating low mood and anger, and individuals overwhelmed or panicked by high pressure circumstances and environments. In sessions, Tyler gives easy-going and level-headed energy

Tyler’s treatment approach is collaborative and tailored to meet each of his client’s individual needs and goals. He pulls from evidence-based practices including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Tyler works with people who struggle with anxiety in all its forms, especially those who have noticed their worry and drinking habits might be connected. If your mind never seems to slow down, you feel overwhelmed easily, or you’re constantly on edge, you’re not alone. Tyler takes a relaxed, down to earth approach and helps you find practical ways to cope, untangle unhelpful thought patterns, and face things you may have been avoiding. He also creates space to talk openly about alcohol and other coping habits so you can better understand what’s helping, what’s hurting, and how to make choices that support your overall wellbeing.

Tyler is passionate in his work with adult men who are undergoing identity changes– especially those stuck in their low moods or like anger is taking over their lives. Many are navigating career setbacks, job changes, relationship conflict, separation, or realizing their identity has been tied to work or a partner. Some cope with stress through anger, shutdown, or silence, which can strain relationships and create regret. Tyler helps men better understand their emotions, express themselves in healthier ways, and reconnect with a stronger sense of purpose and identity.

Tyler is skilled in supporting adults who feel overwhelmed or panicked by the constant pressure of demanding jobs, busy lives, or intense academic programs. Many feel mentally exhausted, irritable, or down while trying to keep up with expectations from work, family, and themselves. It can be difficult to slow down, speak up, or say no without guilt. Tyler helps clients understand how these pressures affect their wellbeing, communicate their needs more clearly, and set healthier limits that protect their time and energy so they can feel more balanced, in control, and supported at work and at home.
