Sean Spencer, LCMHCA
Sean is a Greensboro, NC native who has lived all over North Carolina and landed in our coastal town. Sean specializes in working with adults and adolescents with ADHD, chronic depression, and trauma. Sean is laid-back and has a strong calming presence.
Sean’s therapeutic orientation is rooted in evidence-based practices of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy and Attachment Therapy. Sean believes in the power of strong therapeutic relationship and uses a collaborative approach to determine a treatment plan specific to each client’s needs.
Sean is passionate about working with adults and adolescents with ADHD. He understands that there is more to ADHD than hyperactivity and difficulty focusing. ADHD can really throw a wrench through our life goals, career goals, and plans for self-care. Impulsivity, restlessness and racing thoughts can make it hard to accomplish the things we know matter to us. Sean works with his clients to understand their symptoms, develop self-compassion, and implement strategies that can make day-to-day life easier.
He specializes in treating adults and adolescents who are experiencing chronic depression. Struggling with depression, feeling down, or in a “funk” can lead us to feel like there’s no light at the end of the tunnel. Sean utilizes tools from evidence-based practices to help his clients move towards self-acceptance, increase their day-to-day functioning in ways that work for them, and build a life worth living once again.
Sean also specializes in working with adults and adolescents with a history of trauma. Traumatic experiences, no matter how big or small, can feel incredibly isolating and disrupt our day-to-day functioning and sense of well-being. He wants his clients to know that they are not alone, and that healing from our traumatic experiences is possible. Using evidence-based, trauma-informed therapeutic techniques, Sean helps his clients find healing and reclaim their lives.
Fun Fact: Sean has a pet golden retriever who is a fish at heart!
