Phil Johnson, LMFT
Phil Johnson may be quick with a laugh and a master jokester, but don’t let his down-to-earth nature fool you! With over 20 years experience and a proven track record, Phil enjoys working with individuals and couples. Phil employs Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and other modalities to create a systemic, holistic approach unique to each client.
Phil specializes in working with couples who are experiencing communication issues, especially those who are feeling hopeless about their relationship or considering separation or divorce. He knows developing and maintaining relationships is tough work and takes a lot of guts! It’s natural for people to question their relationships, which require constant adaptation to both internal and external influences. Disconnected couples develop healthy communication patterns and increased awareness of needs through joint exploration of thoughts, feelings, and goals.
Phil loves working with clients in the middle stages of life, adults with experience and accomplishments who are struggling with feeling less relevant or lacking a sense of purpose, such as Empty Nesters. Whether in relation to personal, relational, or professional role changes, Phil helps empty nesters unlock the confidence they need to find their meaningful place in an ever-changing world. He believes life really begins, and people really begin living, at middle age.
Phil also enjoys working with boundaries, specifically people who have trouble saying no and often find themselves spread too thin. This can create experiences of feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or depressed, and may lead to questioning one’s value and ignoring one’s needs. Phil helps individuals find a balance between closeness in a relationship while maintaining a sense of self. He guides those who find it difficult to put themselves first, discover the right balance between self and others needs and ultimately, experience reduced stress and guilt.
Fun Fact: Phil is a sports nut (both playing and watching).
