Meet our Therapist Doug Edwards

Doug Edwards, LCSW

Doug Edwards, LCSW

Doug Edwards, LCSW is grounded and insightful. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has over 20 years of experience. He works well with adults, couples, and families. His counseling philosophy focuses on improving communication and building  supportive and nurturing relationships. The modalities he utilizes in session depend largely upon his client's unique needs. Doug says: "I customize my treatment approach for each individual client because no two are alike. No two have identical needs." The best approach for any individual depends on how that individual thinks, how they learn, their readiness for change, how they communicate.

While Doug customizes his approach for each client, he is trained and experienced in insight oriented therapy, didactic therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy. Problem-solving, communication, support building, and skill-building are a few strategies that are commonly used in Doug's sessions.

Doug is passionate about couples and marriage therapy. He believes that divorce rates are determined by a couple’s ability to effectively resolve conflicts.  Couples seek counseling with Doug  for many different issues.  Some of the most common concerns are infidelity, communication, unmet emotional needs, financial concerns, and differences about child rearing. He believes that  couples go through periods of rough patches (due to ego, jealousy, insecure attachment, anger, etc) but that they have the ability to rediscover their foundation and rebuild their relationship.

"I believe all couples go through periods of rough patches and all couples have the ability to rediscover their foundation and rebuild their relationship." - Doug Edwards

Doug also works to help his clients  in substance abuse treatment  and address issues associated with recovery, substance abuse, and other compulsive behaviors (gambling, pornography addiction, sex addiction). Having first hand experience, he believes wholeheartedly in the process of self-improvement and recovery.

Doug also loves working with caretakers, individual suffering from depression as well as anxiety. He also has close personal experience with Autism that make him the right choice for individuals with autism and other spectrum disorders.  He is also experienced in helping parents to successfully address parenting challenges with children of all ages.

Doug is a trained christian counselor and offers christian faith based counseling but respects every person's right to develop their own belief system or to reject all belief systems. He has been successful in working with persons of many faiths.
