Becky, O'Dell, LPC,

Becky, O'Dell, LPC,

Becky O'Dell, LPC Becky is a native of Kentucky but has fallen in love with Wilmington. She is loving this new chapter of her life at the beach.  She has over 20 years of experience working win the field. Her therapeutic style is warm and welcoming, like your favorite elementary school teacher. In fact, she was one! She began her work with children in an educational setting, teaching elementary education. Through her experience she found that children seemed to gravitate toward teachers for support and counseling services. So, in 2009, Becky decided to go back to school to earn her master’s in counseling and become credentialed as a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Board Certified Counselor. Becky is unique in that she understands  the struggles of parenting and respects the importance of the therapist/parent/child relationship.

Becky is passionate about helping all types of anxiety suffers find calm within the chaos. Anxiety therapy is one of  the most common form of therapy sought by those who call for a psychotherapy appointment. Anxiety can be painful and even crippling, dramatically interfering with one’s ability to create one’s life. Becky is skilled in helping individuals rid themselvess of crippling anxiety and build the lives they want.

Becky specializes in Play Therapy and choice focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). Over the years, Becky has observed that while children play they communicate constantly. Oh the stories she’s heard through play. With her experience she was naturally drawn to studying and become a play therapy guru. Becky helps children and families going through difficult times form step by step plans to find peace and fulfillment.

If a child is having behavioral difficulties, like separation anxiety or ADHD, that are disruptive in school or at home, it might be time to consider play therapy. Also, if a family is experiencing a divorce, death, serious illness, or other stressful situations, a play therapist can help the child to process through some of their big feelings. Play therapy is also appropriate for a child who has witnessed or experienced a traumatic event.  Click Here to learn more about play therapy.
